I am interested in geological problems, mainly those that lead to an improved understanding of the physical processes that underlie planetary structure and evolution. Because these are diverse, the processes need to be investigated using a variety methods. They include field studies, computational modelling, and data analysis.
Current and past research areas are the structure of the inner core, outer core chemistry, the fate of subduction relicts in the lower mantle, the structure of the upper mantle, the structure and temporal development of hot spots, the architecture of cratonic roots and their relation to diamond occurrences, sound propagation and volcanism detection in the oceans, and the details of layering in the Moon.
