Departmental responsibilities

Teaching: Year 1 - Environmental Systems and Cycles. Year 3 – Oceanography and Micropaleontology. Year 4 and MSc in Earth System Science – Frontiers in Earth Science and Stable Isotopes in Earth Systems Science.

Admin: Departmental Exams Officer; Director of Research.

Research Interests

The application of Isotope geochemistry to the study of a diverse range of questions in Earth Science, mainly concerning the past evolution of the surface Earth. Current broad directions include:

  • the links between continental weathering, ocean chemistry and climate;
  • the past oxygenation state of the oceans - from the Holocene Mediterranean to the Archean global ocean;
  • tracking past ocean circulation and heat transport using radiogenic isotopes;
  • development of transition metal isotope systems as monitors of past trace element nutrient cycling in the ancient ocean
