Recent changes in the government’s funding to universities have had a serious impact on the financial viability of the Department of Earth Sciences' Lifelong Learning programme and after considering a range of options the Department has had to make the difficult decision to close this programme.
The programme has run in various forms for more than three decades, having evolved over the years from being part of the University’s Extra-Mural Department into the present day Lifelong Learning programme in the Department of Earth Sciences. Our annual enrolments for the past several years numbered more than 600, and the programme had expanded successfully in recent years to include more Environmental and Natural Science topics as well as Astronomy.
We would like to sincerely thank all of those who have taken part in our programme over the years, and regret that we are no longer able to support it.
Please note that some Lifelong Learning courses are still available at the University. Please visit University of Bristol's Lifelong Learning pages. (http://www.bris.ac.uk/lifelong/) for details.
Some tutors who have previously lead courses for our programme are offering their courses independently. Please check this webpage for updates, and for contact details and/or links to web sites with their course details.
For keen geologists, there are a number of local societies that might be of interest: see "Local Geological Clubs and Societies" on our Links page.
