The School currently provides six single honours undergraduate degree programmes: BSc and MSci in Geology and in Environmental Geoscience, together with an MSci with a year's study abroad in either Geology or Environmental Geoscience. There are also four joint honours programmes, two taught MSc courses - in Palaeobiology and in Earth System Science, and an MSc by Research in the Science of Natural Hazards. Each year , we also take on a number postgraduate students to undertake research leading to a PhD (13 in 2008).
The intake quota for Single Honours undergraduates for the year is 64, and in addition some 10 Joint Honours students also enter each year. There are currently some 43 MSc postgraduates and 48 PhD students.
Information technology, quantitative skills, and environmental science are incorporated within undergraduate teaching and courses are structured to take account of changing patterns of employment of geologists. PhD students receive training in technical and transferrable skills whilst being guided in their research by one or more supervisors.
